With Internet taking over the ways the world does business now a days is not an option whether you have a website or not. The question now is how you make that website stands above the others.

They can sway the outcome of an otherwise flawless presentation because they are “take-away” materials. Clients may be temporarily dazzled by an effective presentation, but after this memory fades they will be left with the physical folders themselves. Therefore, it is vitally important that the presentation folder design incorporates the essential elements of excellent graphic design.

The shape, color, and overall size of the folder are perhaps the most important elements. A folder that has a glossy finish, for example, will convey a very different tone than a folder with a quality matte finish. When clients touch the texture of the folder, they will associate this texture with the overall message of the presentation. If an architectural firm is attempting to win a competition and they pass out folders that have a noticeably fuzzy texture, the clients will associate that particular firm’s designs with softness and perhaps even a certain disorganized quality.

If the folders have a high sheen or gloss, this may register in the mind of the client as being an example of sharp if somewhat unimaginative thinking. Whatever the particular mood, presentation folders should be treated not as a frivolous expenditure, but as an integral part of the overall presentation.

 

 



The folders should also be large enough to contain the materials that are put within them. A folder that is visibly bulging or has materials leaning out of it will convey a sense of haste or simple unpreparedness. The folders should not be noticeably empty, either. They must be chosen to accommodate the materials so that it appears to be a perfect fit.

Generally, well-designed folders will also include a precut slot for a business card or other information card on the interior flap of the folder. This small touch is vital for clients, especially if they seeing multiple presentations in one day and need to be able to reference different firms quickly. The card that is inserted into the slot should also feature excellent graphic design principles: clear, easy to read type that is spaced appropriately. Each component that goes into the folder should reinforce the overall message of the firm or company.

After each of these design elements has been carefully chosen, the actual material of the folder must also be considered. Presentation folders should be durable. Regardless of their finish, color, or ultimate size, a presentation folder should be able to survive exposure to water, sunlight, and the jostle of travel. A beautiful folder is worth nothing if it falls apart.
